Flinders Press Submissions Guidelines

We are only interested in illustrated picture books, early readers and chapter books. Make your submission letter/e-mail to the point and as brief as possible, to include your credentials, an explanation of what makes your story unique and special, and a brief synopsis. If submitting via e-mail, send all manuscripts and artwork as attachments, preferably in PDF format.

Please note that due to the very high volume of queries we receive, we can only respond to those in which we are genuinely interested. Therefore, if an author/illustrator has not heard from us within six to eight weeks of submitting an illustrated manuscript, it means there is no interest. No follow-up phone calls, please. Feel free to make simultaneous submissions.

How to Submit Your Illustrated Manuscript:

When submitting to Flinders Press, please note:

  • We accept submissions via e-mail and “snail mail.”
  • We are only reviewing illustrated manuscripts for picture books, early readers, and chapter books. If it is not illustrated, do not send it.
  • If mailed, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) with your submission so that we may send you a reply.
  • If you send materials you would like us to return to you, you must enclose an SASE with sufficient return postage. Once again, please do not send any original or irreplaceable materials—due to the high volume of submissions, we cannot guarantee the return of materials, even when postage is provided.
  • We are not responsible for materials sent with your proposal that become lost or damaged.
  • Please do not send original photographs, slides, or artwork, one-of-a-kind dummies or mock-ups, or irreplaceable items of any kind with your proposal. Flinders Press is not responsible for the return of such materials.
  • We will only respond to submissions that interest us.
